kaua’i slideshow

We spent one week in Kaua’i and got back last Sunday. The trip wasn’t long enough, of course. We had just begun to to catch up on sleep from the flight when it was time to go back to Japan.

I’ll miss: a map full of beaches and hiking trails, food from Papaya’s Natural Foods and Cafe, surprisingly friendly and laid-back drivers and shop keepers, walking around in flip-flops and shorts, floating in salt water, sleeping in the sun on the beach…

Thanks to Mom for setting us up in Tita Nonon’s very comfortable and spacious pad in Kapa’a!

Check out the Flash slideshow (opens in a new window). Warning: contains music… and sugary sweet photos of a smiling couple.

Music from “Kalama’s Quartet: Early Hawaiian Classics, 1927-1932” (find it on iTunes).

  1. Awesome pictures, Rick! How was the water? I think it’s funny how you only had one picture looking out at the ocean, when most of mine focus on the water.

  2. Thanks, Gumby!
Well, the water was a little chilly, at least on the North and East Shores, where it was always partly cloudy and pretty windy. We made it to the sunnier South Shore once, to Poipu, but not before a lot of other tourists, so we didn’t go into the water much.
One of my best memories of Maui is bobbing up and down in the warm waves at Makena beach. Maybe we were visiting a little too early in the year to enjoy that on Kauai.
That’s right, there’s not much water in the slideshow!
I guess because we didn’t go in much, and also because I didn’t want my precious camera too close to the water.
I just now added a couple ocean shots: #25 and #28.

  3. cool pix. did you ever hear amy’s ‘shrimp scampi in Kaua’i’ story?

  4. Thanks, Rand.
“Shrimp scampi in Kaua’i” story…. it rings a bell, but I can’t recall… is it a scary one?
