I’m back in Kyoto now — I’ve actually been back for a couple weeks now. Lots of blogging to catch up on.
This weekend, back in Morton, my family gathered together from San Francisco, Salem (Oregon) and Tacoma for the annual Logger’s Jubilee. The partial family portrait above, shot by brother-in-law Salman, shows about 57% of us. Eamon called me up on his laptop so I could join in virtually by iChat AV. The magic of the Internets.

You’ve gotten me hooked on “Hana” by Asa-Chang & Jun Ray now… I wish I could find some samples of Ryuichi Sakamoto…
that’s really…weird. =\
Rand: Wow, Morton, population 1100, in the NY Times!
Azim: Yeah, Hana is hypnotic, huh? Tired of it yet? You can find 30-second Ryuichi Sakamoto clips in the iTunes music store. He’s hard to pin down. Soundtracks, commercials, pop, “world,” classical, electronic, bossa-nova — and, when he sometimes sings, an unusual soft voice that seems slightly off.
Jenny: Yeah, it is weird! How we’re thousands of miles distant, how I’m in nighttime while they’re in the afternoon, how I’m “sitting” disembodied on my brother’s lap. How did this stuff become possible?
Very nice photo!
