This year some of the rice fields in our neighborhood have CD-Rs hung over them, presumably to scare away birds with their reflections.
Now, did all those compact discs come from failed burns or did the farmers just buy cheapo packs and hang up the discs straight out of the shrinkwrap?

I saw a row of these hanging from the top of a road pass through a building in Kyoto University, I suppose in warning for tall vehicles against crashing into the ceiling.
Nice blog, by the way – I’m a 4-month new Kyotoite now living in Fushimi-ku, soon to be Sakyo-ku-ite! Cheers.
That’s good idea, sounds more car-friendly than the big bars or weights I’ve seen in the U.S.
Thanks for the compliment!
For when you move, here’s an offical Son of Soy welcome to Sakyo-ku, extended to Theresa.
I’ll hang a CD out front as a signal. 🙂
